Boxes Boxes Everywhere

I don't really like this one. It was really difficult to establish the light at this angle and I think the craft could be better.
Out of the three drawings, I think this one is my favorite. I spent a lot of time on it and I think you can tell when you compare it to my other ones.

Shady Day: Book Excercises

Glue in Pairs

Matte Knife
This was exercise 2.6. I decided to make the background white so I could shown the shadow of the knife. It looked kinda weird with the big patched of white, so I expanded, shading it out for effect.

Outside On a Sunny DayJosie and I went outside to work on exercise 2.8. We sat in the park across the street and sketched for about half an hour. I liked the space; it had a lot of trees and therefor a lot of shadow to draw.

Pear and Napkin
I think this turned out okay considering I never realized how hard it is to draw a napkin!!!

More Shading

I can't seem to figure out how to shade well with pen. I need a lot of practice!!

Gosh, the dotting took forever. I started thinking I could do it in about 15 minutes, but it actually took me about 45 minutes. I am not actually sure why I did it, but I am very happy with it because it turned out well.

Shading

Desk
When we broke off to shade on our own, a bunch of us decided to wander downstairs to the empty classroom. We turned off all the lights, opened one window blind, and drew chairs. The light was really pretty and it was so peaceful.I got this far on my drawing and then a teacher walked in and told us we had to leave because there was a class. I think it turned out okay despite the fact that it is not finished, and I think the diagonal shading worked well.

My Best Friend
I used smudging to shadow the coffee cup. Except for a few details, I think it turned out well. The coffee in it was not bad either!

Rubber Cement
When I started this, I did not realize how difficult it was going to be. It was so hard to see the light and I must have moved at one point because the shadow was completely off. It is smudging as well.

Studio is...

I.D's Double Layout
This double layout is from I.D magazine, the July/August edition. I really liked the idea of having images layered on top of each other, with one creating the background for the layout.

My Double Layout
I did not copy everything from the ad, rather I used it as inspiration. I really wanted the layout to capture the essence of just what makes studio studio. The dedication and learning experiences are what stood out in my mind when I was thinking of ideas for this project. I think it turned out alright.

Leave the Night Light On

So, I actually like how this turned out. It took me a long time to figure out how much I was going to shade initially so that it would look natural.

More Profiles

Ben

Kurt
When we were doing these exercises, I came to realize that I much rather draw girls than boys. I had a hard time trying not to give them too feminine features.

People Watching

Friends Sketching FriendsSince our Group is the dead last to get out pictures taken, we had free time to sketch, so we all sketched each other.

Computer Lab

Lunch At Spencer's
This one was hard because the people in the background of the sketch kept leaving!! At least I got my friends to sit still for a few minutes.
Dorm Room Talk

I went to visit my friend in her dorm last night and I decided to draw while we caught up on the latest gossip.

Downtown Greensboro

City Park
Okay, so this a sketch of the Park. It took me awhile to figure out where I was going to draw from and then more time to figure out where I was going to begin. This was my favorite sketch because of the atmosphere as I was drawing. It was in the evening and even though I was downtown, it felt so peaceful the entire time.

Natty Greens
One night, a few of us went to Natty Greens for dinner. We ended up sitting outside, which was perfect because the views were great. The food was good too!

Greenhill Center

This was another view from the Park. The building is Greenhill Center. I really liked this structure.

This was the day that I went out to draw some more, and for the life of me, could not concentrate. I kept tuning into the conversation between these two men behind me.

Negative Space: Bike
This is my negative space drawing of the bike. For one of the 9 negative space drawings we had for homework last week, I did a bike too. It was easier naturally because it was in pencil! I like drawing in pen, but I don't really like how this turned out.

It is HOT outside!!

Take Two!
So, I began the drawing with the closest tree. As I was working, some guy drove up on his motorcycle and decided it would be a nice place to leave it for 30 minutes. The whole time I was drawing, I kept hoping that he would not come back and leave me with a half drawn motorcycle!!!

In Front of the Science Building
So this picture was the first attempt. It was so hot yesterday and I could not concentrate for the life of me, hence the reason why it is not done.
